Friday 14th July 1967
The Public Records Act (1967) received the Royal Assent. It reduced the period of fifty years specified in section 5(1) of the Public Records Act 1958 as that for which certain public records must have been in existence for them to be available for public inspection in the UK. This new Act reduced the period in question to thirty years but did not come into effect until 1st January 1968.
