Notable events on this day, 12th December, in years gone by:

Saturday 12th December 1987
ROOTS-L', the first genealogy mailing list, was launched by Alf Christophersen.

Friday 12th December 2014
Access by the public to all of the computer terminals holding the detailed English and Welsh Probate Indexes for the years 1996 onward was withdrawn. The service was replaced by an on-line version that had been heavily redacted (as directed by the UK's Information Commissioner) to remove vital information such as the deceased's address, the value of the estate, and the executors names and addresses etc.
