Daniel Gooderson, 29, the only son of well-known hoteliers, Alan and Judith Gooderson, has died unexpectedly from what his devastated parents believe were "post-operative complications".

His older sister, Cheryl Gooderson, said on Wednesday night: "It would appear this is so at this stage, but nothing is conclusive until a post-mortem is carried out."

Her brother was involved in the family's successful Gooderson Leisure Corporation and was the managing director of Gooderson Vacations.

He was recuperating at the family's beachfront Tropicana Hotel after having weight-loss surgery at St Augustine's Hospital, but died in the early hours of Tuesday.

He had the keyhole operation, known as bariatric surgery, on October 7 and was discharged from hospital on October 11.

A post-mortem will be done on Monday and the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2pm, to be followed by a wake at the Tropicana Hotel.

Gooderson's death has shocked the local hospitality industry and the family was inundated with condolence messages and flowers yesterday.

On Wednesday night, his wife Manuela, who is two months pregnant, and his mother had the dreadful job of breaking the news to the couple's children, Cheyenne, five, and Dakota, one.

Cheryl said: "We sought the guidance of a child psychologist."

Gooderson had been planning to go on holiday to the south coast with his wife and children after recuperating.

His parents have said in their death notice that they were devastated.

"We love you deeply and will miss you forever," they said.
