Dalek in the opera |
DAVROS, the evil genius who created the Daleks, is joining the English Touring Opera when it arrives in the region this month with a double bill of Strauss. |
England's largest touring opera company will be performing Die Fledermaus, by Johann Strauss, and Ariadne on Naxos, by Richard Strauss, in Darlington on May 27 and 28. |
Both operas are set in turn-of-the-century Vienna where two wealthy aristocrats are throwing extraordinary house parties. Though neither event turns out as expected, there is plenty to celebrate. |
For the first time the opera company will be joined by an acting-only star - David Gooderson, who brought the evil Davros to life in Doctor Who. |
The English Touring Opera orchestra is led by rising British opera star Richard Farnes and directed by Royal Opera House director Colin Graham. |
