Racecourse rocked as director quits club |
ANOTHER Wrexham FC director has stepped down, the Evening Leader can exclusively reveal today. |
Manchester-based property consultant Stephen Gooderson confirmed this morning that he has walked away from the club. |
His departure follows yesterday’s news that commercial manager Robin Eaves had decided not to join the club, blaming the current crisis as the main reason for his decision. |
This morning Mr Gooderson also blamed his departure on the current situation and the way different factions at The Racecourse were pulling in different directions. |
The board is currently in conflict after chairman Alex Hamilton told members he wanted to hold an extraordinary general meeting on 29th September. |
The sole purpose of that meeting would be to remove managing director John Reames and long-serving directors David Bennett and David Griffiths from the board. |
Sponsorship |
Mr Gooderson said today he felt his position at the club was untenable because of the divisions at The Racecourse. |
He said those divisions were making it impossible for him to do what he had hoped to do, which would have included bringing more money into the club through sponsorship. |
He said: "Alex Hamilton is fully aware of my decision. I told him at the end of last week. I was brought to Wrexham by Mr Hamilton, who I knew previously, to help the club, but I feel this is impossible because of what is going on with different people wanting to do different things. So, regrettably, I can confirm I have walked away." |
Mr Gooderson added that he had received hundreds of phone calls from fans on a regular basis concerned about what is going on at The Racecourse under the current regime and those regular calls had also played a part in his decision. |
He said he was still on speaking terms with Mr Hamilton and was sad to leave the club. |
Mr Gooderson was brought on to the board in May at the same time Alex Hamilton was announced as chairman. |
